KOCHI, FEB. 10. Corporate winning strategies depend on a variety of factors such as direction, commitment and setting an example, according to Thomas J. Delong, Professor of Management Practice, Harvard Business School, U.S. Inaugurating a two-day annual meeting of the Kerala Management Association here today, he said winning strategies were important for the establishment as well as individuals.
Focussed plan
A clearly communicated focussed strategy is important for success. A unique product or service can bring in good results. High performance culture will help in the achievement of the company goals. Developing and maintaining a flawless organisational culture and creation of structures that reduce bureaucracy can go a long way in gaining good results. As far as individuals are concerned, commitment to strategy and direction are relevant. If there is a strategy whereby employees feel they are owners, it will be highly beneficial to the company's growth. Focussing on customer-valued work, creation of shared accountability, integrity and transparency are other factors which ensure success. A company setting performance targets should evolve methods for greater participation of the `B players' or the second rung of the cadre, he said. Sudhir Sahgal, Managing Director, Philips Carbon Black Limited, Kolkatta, in his speech, termed globalisation as a `master mega trend,' which would overtake other trends in the world. Asian economies are poised for a leap in the years to come and might even overtake the G-7 economies, according to him. With new technologies and new strategies, China and India are well placed in the globalised economy. He also felt that `satisfactory underperformance' is a malady affecting Indian companies. Earlier, Kurian C.George, president of KMA, in his address, underlined the need to be fast in the present day world. J. Gopal, Chairman of the Convention Committee, welcomed the gathering. K.K.Jayan, Honorary Secretary, KMA, proposed a vote of thanks.
