COIMBATORE, FEB. 10. The District Environment Committee has planned measures to prevent pollution of river water due to discharge of sewage and for solid waste management in the city. A meeting of the committee recently resolved to evolve action plans for prevention of discharge of untreated sewage into the river Bhavani in Mettupalayam and Sanganur Canal in the city. The committee, with the District Collector as Chairman and the District Environmental Engineer as Secretary, resolved to initiate steps for a treatment plant in Mettupalayam to treat the sewage generated across the town. At present, untreated sewage was let into the river.
