Himachal Pradesh
By Our Staff Correspondent
SHIMLA, FEB.11. The Himachal unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party has expressed surprise at the way the State Government is publicising "a paltry increase of Rs 200 crores in the State's Annual Plan outlay as a big achievement". The party feels that the Government instead has pledged the interests of the State with the Centre. "The poor population of the hill State would have to pay now for the setting up a public service tariff board". Former Health Minister and senior BJP leader J.P. Nadda today charged that Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh had taken an anti-people step by committing for the public service tariff board which would decide the tariff of all public services like transport, education, health, irrigation and public health in near future. The State has already burnt its fingers by setting a regulatory commission for electricity, he said. The BJP alleged that the insecure Congress Government has indulged in financial extravagance burdening the State exchequer. Every third day the Chief Minister and his Cabinet colleagues are running to Delhi to please their High Command and in turn protecting their chairs. Mr. Nadda claimed that it was Congress party led by Virbhadra Singh which had opposed the "Rogi Kalyan Samitis" constituted by the previous BJP government and it is now planning the same in all the sectors. It has given its commitment to start the same as a part of reforms, he said. The BJP would start a "Janjagran Abhiyan" to make the masses aware about this sell out of peoples' interests, he claimed.
