KHAMMAM, FEB. 11. The mandal revenue office at Charla was extensively damaged by naxalites of the CPI (Maoist) who blasted the building using gelatine sticks late on Thursday night. Some important revenue records pertaining to the mandal were also destroyed. The Charla local guerilla squad led by Swaroopakka was suspected to have triggered the blast. About ten armed members of the squad entered the mandal revenue office around 10.40 pm and placed three gunny bags filled wth gelatin sticks in three rooms and connected them with a wire and triggered the blast. However, the gelatin sticks did not explode in two rooms. The police seized about 10 kg of gelatine sticks from the spot. The mandal office is located away from the village and as a result the police also could not reach the place immediately. The police suspected the blast to be part of a major ambush plan. Civilian parties reached the place first and took stock of the situation. The LGS members fled the village after the blast. They were suspected to have crossed the inter-State border with Chhattisgarh, which is only thee km from Charla.
