GURUVAYUR, FEB. 11. The Devaswom Minister, K.C. Venugopal, has said that the State Government is against the move of the Income Tax (IT) Department to inspect the golden crown offered by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, to the Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple in 2001. Replying to questions from presspersons here today, the Minister said the Government would take a decision on the issue after considering its legal dimensions. When his attention was drawn to the decision of the Guruvayur Devaswom Managing Committee to refer the issue to the Government, Mr. Venugopal said the issue had not yet come before it. The Government did not want to encourage illegal activities or interfere in the due process of law. But its position was that an offering made to the temple should not be examined by other agencies, he said.
Addressing a press conference after reviewing the security arrangements at the Sree Krishna temple with top officials of the police, the Minister said the temple would soon have a hi-tech security system similar to the ones that are in place for the temples like Tirupati.
