Uttaranchal
By Our Staff Correspondent
DEHRA DUN, FEB. 11. Persistent cold conditions and frequent snowfall have left the apple growers of Uttaranchal in a merry mood. "The extremely good weather conditions mean we will have a bumper apple crop this season," says Trilok Bhatt, a progressive farmer in Harsil. "The apples this season would be bigger, bright red in colour, more nutritious and fetch a good price. The people will also be able to eat the fruit at reasonable prices," says a senior official of the State Horticulture Department. The snow has, however, created problems for tourists who were stuck up on the road near Harsil for several hours on Wednesday evening. They however managed to get the snow cleared with the help of locals and reached Rishikesh. Snow has brought much cheer to the businessmen at Mussoorie and Naini Tal as these places are full of tourists enjoying a white holiday. "Business this season has been very good and we hope it snows more over the next few days so that more people can come and enjoy here," observed Satish Shah, a businessman in Mussoorie.
