13 naxalites surrender

KARIMNAGAR, FEB. 11. The CPI-ML Janashakti Mahadevpur dalam commander, Choudhary Srinivas alias Ramankanth, along with three other dalam members and two Communist party of United States of India (CPUSI) naxalites, surrendered before the Superintendent of Police, Rajiv Ratan, here on Friday.

Ramakanth joined the dalam in 2001 and had operated in the Mahadevpur, Kataram, Adavimutharam areas in the State and in the Asarelli and Sironcha areas in Maharashtra. He was involved in 16 cases of extortion, kidnapping. He was also involved in five killings and also in the kidnapping of Border Roads Organisation supervisor, Mallikarjuna Swamy at Asarelli.

The other surrendered Janashakti members are Akula Mondi alias Sagar, Langari Susheela alias Vanitha and Gali Sammaiah alias Sammaiah.

The deputy dalam commander of the Bhopalapalli area of the CPUSI, Jangama Rajender, and his wife, Essam Susheela alias Anitha, were also among those who surrendered.

All surrendered naxalites said ill-treatment by party district committees had made them quit the movement.

Ill-treatment alleged

Ramakanth alleged that the party high command used to collect huge amounts as party fund but distribute a meagre Rs. 4,000 per month for maintaining the dalam. The dalam member, Sagar, also levelled similar charges against the party leadership.

Warangal: Seven naxalites belonging to various groups surrendered before the Superintendent of Police, M. Stephen Ravindra.

The surrendered naxalites were: one Local Guerrilla Squad commander and a dalam member of CPI (ML) Maoist, a deputy commander and one dalam member of Janashakti and three dalam members belonging to the Pratighatana and Prajaprathighatana groups and the CPUSI.

The surrendered cadre said they joined the revolutionary parties due to family disputes and unemployment. However, they were disillusioned and decided to surrender.

Mr. Ravindra told newsmen that the naxal groups were floating frontal organisations and luring people.
