BANGALORE, FEB. 11. Dacoits struck at the Sericulture Department quarters on the outskirts of the city on Bannerghatta Road in the early hours of Friday and robbed the occupants of three houses of Rs. 10,000 in cash and gold ornaments worth Rs. 75,000. The police said the incident occurred around 2.30 a.m. at the quarters located at Harogadde on Bannerghatta Road in Anekal police station limits. The seven-member gang attacked the watchman and made him open the gate. They broke into the houses of Gopalakrishna, sericulture inspector, and Lakshman and Thirupala, Group `D' employees. After threatening them with lethal weapons, they robbed them of cash and gold ornaments, the police said. The dacoits spoke Kannada and Tamil and were around 25 years. The Anekal police have registered a case.
Extortion charge: three held
The Wilson Garden police have arrested three persons on charges of extortion and recovered from them six mobile phones, two gold chains and an autorickshaw. The names of those arrested were given as Ramkumar (23), Murugesh (22) and Vadivelu (22), all from Vinayakanagar. In another case, the Chamarajpet police have arrested Murugan (27) of Tiruvannamalai district in Tamil Nadu and recovered from him two gold necklaces worth Rs. 30,000. The police said he had allegedly stolen the necklaces from his employer's house in Chamarajpet.
Raid on live-band joint
The Central Crime Branch (CCB) officials raided a live-band joint in Indiranagar police station limits in the early hours of Friday and arrested 20 people, including the proprietor, Subbaiah (28). The police seized Rs. 3,000 in cash and liquor bottles from the joint in Marappanapalya, which was reportedly open beyond midnight and was serving liquor in violation of excise rules.
