House burgled; cash, jewellery stolen

By Our Staff Correspondent

MYSORE, FEB. 12. A house in Gokulam in the city was burgled last evening with miscreants decamping with cash and jewellery in the absence of the inmates.

The burglars made their way into the house situated on the I cross, I Main, Gokulam, by cutting the window grills when the owner, Kaverappa, a retired general manager of a private company, was away visiting his friend in N.R. Mohalla, along with his wife.

The couple, who returned home around 8.30 p.m. found the main door bolted from inside. Soon, they realised that the grills of a window had been cut open. The burglars had ransacked the house, broken open the almirah before taking away gold chains, rings, a necklace and other jewellery, besides Rs 4,000 in cash.

Soon after realising that their house has been burgled, Kaverappa informed the V.V. Puram police, who visited the spot and noticed a striking similarity between the burglary reported in the house of District Industries Centre (DIC) Joint Director, B.S. Sirsikar, on Kalidasa Road on February 9.

The police have registered a case and are on the look out for the miscreants. The sniffer dogs, which were pressed into service, led the policemen up to a nearby petrol bunk before losing trace of the scent.
