Educational help for tsunami kids

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, FEB.12. Determined not to forget the worst sufferers in the tsunami tragedy -- children -- Save the Children, a non-government organisation, is planning long-term rehabilitation focused on educational livelihood and child protection.

The organisation has already provided relief material to about 10,000 people in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. In Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Save the Children in collaboration with the Department of Education is supporting 566 children with textbooks, other material, plus board and lodging facilities for them to prepare for the Class X and XII exams.

It is also providing stationery and reference books to 1,400 children across the islands appearing for their respective Board exams. Besides, trying to ensure a better future by focussing on education, it is also trying to help rebuild their lives at the moment by supporting 56 centres with items such as utensils and early childhood development kits. The organisation is also working with children in villages to counsel them to overcome this tragedy.
