NEW DELHI, FEB. 12. Tension prevailed at Model Town in North-West Delhi today after the family members of a 11-year-old boy, who was murdered in a sweetshop in the area on February 7, and area residents staged a protest, demanding the arrest of one more person in connection with the case. The police have already arrested two persons in the case. Around noon, the family members of Kanhaiya Lal, son of Diwari Lal, a resident of the jhuggies (near Hanuman Mandir), and the agitated area residents reached the temple carrying Kanhaiya's body. Earlier in the day, the police had handed over the body of the deceased after post-mortem at Babu Jagjiwan Ram Hospital. After about four hours of agitation, the police somehow managed to persuade the area residents to call off their protest. The police maintained that there was no need of a further probe as their investigations had not established the role of the person who was alleged to be involved in the incident. Earlier, the police had arrested Babu Lal and Inder Dev, both residents of jhuggies (near Hanuman Mandir), for allegedly killing Kanhaiya. Diwari had lodged a complaint with the Model Town police that his son had gone missing since February 7 and that he suspected Babu's involvement. Babu was interrogated and he allegedly confessed to having killed Kanhaiya. At his instance, his associate Inder Dev was arrested. Kanhaiya's body was recovered from an iron trunk kept in the premises of Hanuman Mandir on February 9. During interrogation Babu had told the police that he was having an affair with Kanhaiya's sister and used to meet her clandestinely. But Kanhaiya used to tell his father about these meetings. He was fed up with Kanhaiya's habit and decided to eliminate him. Babu roped in his co-worker, Inder Dev, for the purpose. Babu and Inder, who used to work in a nearby sweetshop owned by one Vinod, called Kanhaiya on February 7 to the shop and killed him after which the accused dumped the body in an iron trunk kept in Hanuman Mandir. The agitators alleged that Vinod was also involved in the killing but the police had let him off. The police were keeping an eye on the situation.
