Take stern steps to check extremism: Vajpayee

By D.P. Sharan

JAMSHEDPUR, FEB.12. The former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, today stressed the need for taking stern steps against the increasing militant activities in the country. Mr. Vajpayee was addressing an election rally here today.

Reacting sharply to the gruesome killing of 17 police personnel in Karnataka last night, Mr. Vajpayee termed it as an act of "cowardice" by the ultras who killed the policemen while they were sleeping. There was a need to deal with such outlaws sternly in the larger interests of society. Mr. Vajpayee said the development of society could not be ensured without peace and as such the Government was supposed to ensure peace.
