HYDERABAD, FEB. 12. Two girls, both aged four, died after they were believed to have swallowed chloral hydrate under the Ghatkesar police limits on Friday. The police said when Sushma and R. Uma Devi were playing outside their houses at Annojiguda, the former complained of stomach pain and collapsed. She was rushed to a hospital where she was declared brought dead. Minutes later, Uma Devi died in a similar way. Sushma was daughter of Ramulu and Uma Devi of Satyanarayana. Ramulu and Satyanarayana sell toddy. The police believe that the children could have swallowed chloral hydrate kept in Sushma's house as it looks like sugar. However, they do not rule out food poisoning. A preliminary report given by a doctor who conducted autopsy stated that some kind of poisonous substance was found in the bodies. The police registered a case of suspicious death.
