VIJAYAWADA, FEB. 12. As many as six persons attacked a petrol bunk in Kanuru village on the outskirts of the city on Saturday morning and decamped with Rs. 30,000 from the cash counter. According to the Assistant Commissioner of Police, M. Satyanarayana Rao, the six persons went to the petrol bunk on three motorcycles around 6.30 a.m, threatened two persons manning the bunk and thrashed them with sticks. They also attacked the person sitting at the cash counter with sticks and took away Rs. 30,000 from the counter and fled the scene. The police swung into action as soon as they received the information about the attack. The CLUES team and dog squad were also pressed into service. The ACP said the assailants were believed to have fled towards the city. A manhunt was launched to nab them.
Kidnap
A lorry mechanic, D. Leela Prasad, was kidnapped by six persons from his residence in Gudivada in the early hours of Saturday. According to the police, the six persons went to his house and dragged him into a car waiting for them. They threatened his family members saying they were naxalites led by Amar of the Janashakti group.
Three in custody
However, police, who were checking vehicles, grew suspicious at Gannavaram and intercepted the car. While three of the abductors were taken into custody, the remaining three fled towards Vijayawada. A manhunt was launched to arrest them. A case of kidnap was registered against the accused. The police said the trio who were caught belonged to Gudivada. They wanted to demand ransom, if their plan was executed successfully. The district police formed special teams to catch the remaining three.
