CHENNAI, FEB. 13 . Mere knowledge and intelligence is not power but discernment is, said M. Karpaga Vinayagam, judge, Madras High Court. He was speaking at the centenary celebrations of Ramakrishna Mission Students' Home here today. Discernment is "to know how not to talk and what not to talk," Students should to look upon the human body as an instrument to serve the afflicted and the innocent. "Your purpose in life is to serve others." A student who imbibed qualities such as duty, discipline, devotion, determination and discrimination would earn distinction in life. Each student should aim for "at least 35 per cent pass mark in life," he said. At the home, students learnt spirituality, which gives four qualities: humility, originality, magnanimity and equanimity, he added. The Chairman of the Neyveli Lignite Corporation, S. Jayaraman, recalled his experiences and said he had the privilege to be at the home for four years as a student of Vivekananda College. "We learnt faith in God and society. We must repay by living as good citizens. he said. Swami Atmapriyananda of the Belur Math, West Bengal, and Swami Atmavidananda of the Mysore Ramakrishna Ashrama spoke of the importance of service. Industrialist, Nalli Kuppuswamy Chettiar, also addressed the meet. The home celebrated today the concluding day of the three-day celebrations as Swami Vivekananda Day and Home Day.
