Power workers seek action against contractors

CUDDAPAH,
FEB. 14.
Contractual electricity workers besieged the discom Superintending Engineer (SE)'s office for over three hours demanding action against erring contractors.
A large number of workers placed several bounced cheques on the SE's office table, issued by contractors, and demanded registering of criminal cases against them.
The United Electricity Employees Union leader, N. Ravisankar Reddy, alleged that several cheques issued by contractors towards workers' salaries had bounced in the last 10 months.
Workers of Badvel and Proddatur divisions and sub-stations had not been paid salaries in the last 10 months, he alleged.
The minimum wage of Rs. 2,810 was not paid to workers by any contractor, he said.
