Western Railway bags title
MUMBAI,
FEB. 14.
Papki Devi's 16th minute goal capped a fine week for Western Railway which won the in the Tommy Emar Gold Cup Women's Hockey Tournament with a 2-0 win against Air India at the Mahindra stadium. The international striker picked up the `best player' award in the process, on the concluding day of the tournament.
Western's second goal came through a direct penalty corner hit by Jyoti Dodrai in the 43rd minute the only successful conversion of four corners awarded.
AI too gained four corners, but no goals materialised.
Nishi Chauhan set up Papki for the first goal, weaving past two defenders on a run into the goalmouth.
The champions were awarded Rs 15,000, AI gained Rs 10,000, the prizes given away by cinema personality Jackie Shroff.
