Police examine 2 editors in case against Gurumurthy
By Our Special Correspondent
CHENNAI,
FEB.14.
The police today examined two editors here in connection with the case registered against S.Gurumurthy, convener of the Swadeshi Jagran Manch and columnist.
Following the registration of the case against the columnist by the Vishnu Kanchi police in Kancheepuram district, inspector Mohanavel came to the office of the The New Indian Express around 12.20 p.m. and examined the Managing Editor, Manoj Kumar Sonthalia, for about an hour.
Enquiries revealed that the police wanted to get some information which was provided. Mr. Gurumurthy had written articles in the newspaper on the Kanchi Sankararaman murder case.
In the afternoon, the inspector went to the office of Thuglak, a Tamil weekly, and examined the Editor, Cho S. Ramaswamy, for about 40 minutes. The questions related to the publication of the articles written by the columnist on the murder case in the weekly, Mr. Ramaswamy said, when contacted.
The case was registered on the orders of the Kancheepuram Judicial Magistrate-I, G. Uthamaraj, following a complaint by the police about the "attitude" of Mr. Gurumurthy who, they said, had given "false reports" about the issues/matters involved in the investigation of the murder case.
The police said the columnist "contradicted" his own statements during interrogation.
