dated February 16,1955: Mao warns "imperialists"

The Chinese Communist leader, Mr. Mao Tse-tung, has warned that Russia and China would wipe the "imperialists" off the face of the world if they started a war of aggression. Speaking at a Peking reception celebrating the fifth anniversary of the Sino-Soviet Treaty of Friendship and Alliance on February 14, he said the cooperation between the two nations was such that "there are no aggressive plans of imperialism which cannot be smashed." The Chinese Premier, Mr. Chou En-lai, who also spoke at the reception, alleged that "United States aggressive circles" were throwing a menacing ring of aggressive blocs and military bases around China and the Soviet Union. He referred particularly to the "aggression and war provocation" in the Formosa area.
