BIJNOR, FEB. 15. Two prominent traders organisations in Uttar Pradesh are at loggerheads over the issue of imposition of development tax on traders by the State Government. The Pashchimi Uttar Pradesh Udyog Vypar Mandal has accused UP Udyog Vyapar Pratinidhi Mandal treachery, alleging that the latter played an instrumental role in the imposition of the tax. Rejecting the charge, UP Udyog Vyapar Pratinidhi Mandal's leader, Jai Prakash Rajput, said the Mulayam Singh government had withdrawn the proposed turnover tax only due to pressure from their organisation, thereby bringing great relief to the business community. He pointed out that common traders would not be affected by the development tax, which was being imposed only in the larger interest of the State. --PTI
