Hayden cleared for New Zealand tour

SYDNEY, FEB. 15. Australian opener Matthew Hayden got into the National side for the New Zealand tour after clearing a fitness test in Brisbane on Tuesday. Hayden missed a domestic assignment last Friday due to a chest infection.

He consulted a specialist in Brisbane before undertaking a series of fitness tests at Allan Border Field, a Cricket Australia release said here.

Cricket Australia Medical Officer, Dr. Trefor James said, ``Matthew underwent fitness tests and was able to get through two heavy sessions without any difficulty or ill effect. As a result he has been cleared to tour New Zealand.''

The Australian one-day international squad leaves for New Zealand on Wednesday. — UNI
