KOLLUR (UDUPI DISTRICT), FEB. 15. The Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, on Monday said that he prayed to Goddess Mookambika to give him strength to solve the naxalite problem in the State. Speaking at a programme held here after the dedication of the 10.5-foot, 80 kg golden chariot to Goddess Mookambika here, Mr. Singh said that a solution to the naxalite problem will allow him to concentrate on other issues of administration. After the coalition Government headed by him has taken over, there are good rains and harvest in the State. It is the blessings of Goddess, which helped him tide over many problems. He lauded the Sri Mookambika Temple for taking up golden chariot project.
Govt. praised
The Minister for Revenue and Endowments, M.P. Prakash, who released a souvenir, "Suvarna Pushpanjali," said the performance of the State Government has come in for special praise by the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, when he was in Bangalore recently. The Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, Montek Singh Ahluwalia, too lauded the State Government's achievements in various fields. While the dedication of the golden chariot is a symbol of devotion, what was more important was that people should have a "broad and golden mind," he said. Kollur is an important pilgrim centre, which attracted pilgrims from other South Indian States. It is necessary to make the people aware of the history of Kollur, the Minister said. Sri Bharati Tirtha Swamiji of Sringeri Sharada Peetham, who earlier laid the foundation stone for the renovation works for the Saraswati Mantapam on the temple premises, said it is a historic day for Kollur. It is not just efforts, but also God's grace, which is essential for a person's success. There are temples in all villages of the country. These temples provided spiritual solace to the people, he said. The former Chief Justice of Supreme Court, M.N. Venkatachalaiah, laid the foundation stone for the "Ane Bagilu." The Minister for Tourism, D.T. Jayakumar; the Kerala Tourism Minister, K.C. Venugopalan; the former Kerala Minister K. Shankarnarayanan; Prabhavati Dharam Singh, wife of Mr. Dharam Singh, Rudramba Prakash, wife of Mr. Prakash, were present. B.M. Sukumar Shetty, managing trustee of the Sri Mookambika Temple, welcomed the gathering. The MLA, Gopal Poojary, presided over the function. Annappa Shetty proposed a vote of thanks.
