Letters to the Editor
Sir, The revelation by Ravi Subramaniam, accused-turned-approver in the Sankararaman murder case, is shocking. His petition stating that two lawyers threatened him shows that our judicial system has a lot of loopholes. A drastic restructuring of the system with the help of all concerned is the need of the hour.
M.R. Prasad,
Sir, It appears that the Tamil Nadu Government and its police are on a witch-hunt. Whoever goes to meet the Kanchi Acharyas or whoever writes articles against police action is being victimised; even defence lawyers are not being spared. Is the prosecution, finding itself on a weak wicket, resorting to intimidation?
Sriram Athalanallur,
Sir, No one appears to be upholding the principle that when a matter is sub judice, there should be no public discussion on it.
R. Rajagopalan,
Sir, Each time a judicial verdict is pronounced in favour of the Kanchi Mutt or the Sankaracharyas, the police seem to overreact. Immediately after Sri Jayendra Saraswathi was granted bail, they arrested Sri Vijayendra Saraswathi. Now that Sri Vijayendra has been granted bail, they are targeting journalists. Will it be the turn of the devotees next?
S. Latha,
Sir, The head of the Kanchi Mutt may or may not be involved in a crime; but there is no reason to subject the Mutt to actions that paralyse its working. The Madras High Court verdict declaring the freezing of the Mutt accounts illegal is significant in this context.
G.M. Sundar,
T.S. Rao,
