A royal precedent

Sir, — The editorial, "The Windsor Knot" (Feb. 14), notes that when Prince Charles becomes King, Camilla Parker Bowles "will not be Queen but Princess Consort, a title never used before."

There is however a royal precedent of a slightly different kind — a role reversal. After Queen Victoria married the German-born Prince Albert, a cousin, in 1840, the latter became her chief adviser, first as Consort (in 1842) and later as Prince Consort (from 1857 until his death in 1861).
