CHENNAI, FEB. 15. Chennai and Paradeep won two titles each on the opening day of the all-India Major Ports athletics meet at the Nehru stadium here on Tuesday. K. Suresh, IAS, Chairman, Chennai Port Trust, inaugurated the event.
Men: 5000m: 1. Mahendran (Chennai, 15:38.8); 2. K. Subramaniyam (Vizag); 3. Kumar Mohanty (Paradeep).
Boys (u-14): Long jump: 1. Sanjay Swain (Paradeep, 5.41m); 2. V.V. Vipin Kumar (Cochin); 3. Swapnil Govilkar (Mumbai).
Women: Shot put: 1. C.R. Chitra (Chennai, 9.34 m); 2. Tulasi (Chennai); 3. Swati Kharsne (Mumbai).
Girls (u-18) : Long jump: 1. Bhakti Kharsne (Mumbai, 4.9m); 2. Sreeja Krishnan (Cochin); 3. Anjali (Paradeep); Under-14: 1. Susmita Bal (Paradeep, 4.31m); 2. R. Harini (Chennai); 3. Susmita Rout (Paradeep).
Girls (u-14): Shot put: 1. N.C. Janani Vinodhini (Tuticorin, 7.12 m); 2. Sayalis Gharat (JNPT); 3. Nupoor Pradhan (JNPT).
