THRISSUR FEB.15. The `A' group leader and Velur panchayat vice- president, V. T. Chandran, has complained that he has been tortured by the police during a Congress march to the Vadakkanchery police station today. He has been admitted to the Medical College Hospital in Thrissur. The march was a sequel to a series of clashes between the Congress and CPI(M) activists in Velur panchayat late last night. Four Congress workers and three from the CPI(M) have been admitted to different hospitals in connection with the incident. Dileep (25) who is a local-level Congress worker and his mother Devayani (50) who is also a party sympathiser were hacked during the violent incidents at Velur last night. The Congress workers in the area took out a march to the Vadakkanchery police station today alleging that the police were not taking adequate actions against the CPI(M) workers who were involved in the clashes at Velur. The panchayat president, K. A. Johny and Mr. Chandran led the march. Mr. Chandran alleged that he was tortured by the police during the march.
