HYDERABAD, FEB.15. The Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on Tuesday announced naming of the Srisailam Right Branch Canal (SRBC) after the former Prime Minister, P. V. Narasimha Rao. Dr. Reddy was moving a resolution condoling the death of Narasimha Rao in the Assembly.(The SRBC partly meets the irrigation requirements of the Nandyal parliamentary constituency represented by Rao as the Prime Minister). The Chief Minister praised Rao for liberalising the economy and steering the country out of financial crisis. Later the Assembly adopted the condolence motion. By other resolution, the House mourned the TDP MLA, Paritala Ravi. The Leader of the Opposition, N. Chandrababu Naidu, appealed to the Government to construct a memorial for Rao in Delhi. He recalled the TDP's decision not to field a candidate against him when he contested from Nandyal. The TDP MLA, Ch. Rajeswara Rao, who was elected to the Assembly along with Rao for the first time in 1957, recalled how both had organised camps at Sironcha and Chanda in Maharashtra while waging an armed struggle against the Nizam's rule. Endowments Minister, M. Satyanarayana Rao, recalled an "unforgettable" speech of Rao on education as a new entrant to Lok Sabha.
Paritala remembered
Moving the motion on Ravi's death, the Chief Minister said he did a lot of social work, including organising mass marriages for poor. Mr. Chandrababu Naidu said the family of Ravi fought against the feudal lords. He took up several developmental works in his constituency. TDP MLA, P. Keshav, said he was the most misunderstood man and recalled that he strived for development of schools and uplift of women.
