CUDDAPAH, FEB. 15. The National Food for Work scheme launched by the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, four months ago, has failed to benefit any poor person so far, some TDP leaders alleged here on Tuesday. Addressing a press conference at Proddatur, the Rajya Sabha member, S. Ramamuni Reddy, district TDP president, R. Ramesh Kumar Reddy, and former MLA, S. Raghurami Reddy, ridiculed the Congress claims of being pro-farmer. The YSR Government belied the hopes of farmers and agricultural labourers in distress and was merely showering promises on people, they alleged.
Foundations galore
The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, laid foundation stones for 26 irrigation projects, but were yet to make any headway, the TDP leaders alleged. They wondered if any project would be completed during the YSR rule, as land acquisition of the required three lakh acres was yet to be planned. The projects were taken up to merely benefit contractors, they alleged. People were becoming disillusioned towards the Congress and were slowly turning to the TDP, they claimed. The TDP enrolled 1.70 lakh ordinary members and 60,000 active members in the district. In Pulivendula constituency, 3,000 active and 7,000 ordinary members were enrolled, which showed that YSR was losing hold in his segment, they maintained. The former MLA, M.V. Ramana Reddy, former Proddatur constituency incharge, M. Linga Reddy, and leader, K. Ramesh Reddy, who were at loggerheads for years, said their reunion would help in trouncing the Congress in ensuing polls in the constituency.
