Festival of rural products concludes

KOZHIKODE, FEB. 15. The week-long `Gramolppanna Mela 2005,' exhibition of products manufactured under the Rural Employment Generation Programme (REGP), concluded at the Town Hall here today. The exhibition was organised by the office of the Commissioner for Khadi and Village Industries (CVKI) and International Centre for Gandhian Thoughts (ICGT).

The Kozhikode district panchayat president, M.K. Nalani, who inaugurated the valedictory function in the evening, said the products of Khadi and Village Industries were on a par with those produced by multi national companies.

The REGP is one of the major schemes of the Government of India and CKVI. It also aims at generating employment in rural areas of the country. The objectives of the scheme include rural industrialisation and development of entrepreneurship skill among unemployed youth in the rural areas.

The retired joint CEO, Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Mumbai, C.V. Prabakaran, delivered the keynote address. The KVIC State director, R. Prabakar Rao, who presided over the function distributed certificates to the participants of the exhibition.

The Kerala Sarvodaya Sangham chairman, P. Ramachandran Nair, and the KVIC Assistant Development Officer, K.G. Baburaj, spoke.
