All set for Ragam '05

KOZHIKODE, FEB. 15. All arrangements have been made for Ragam '05, cultural festival, which will begin at the National Institute of Technology, Calicut (NIT-C) campus in Chathamangalam, near here, tomorrow.

As many as 3,000 participants from over 100 colleges across the country are expected to participate in the fest being organised by the students of the NIT-C.

Around 50 colleges and 1,500 students have registered for Ragam '05 till Tuesday evening, the organisers said. Some of the colleges participating in the fete include National Institute of Technology, Surathkal (NIT); College of Engineering, Trivandrum (CET); TKM College of Engineering, Kollam; Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology (RIT), Kottayam; All Saints College, Thiruvananthapuram; Model Engineering College, Ernakulam; Government Engineering Colleges of Thrissur and Kannur; Lal Bahadur Shastri College of Engineering (LBS), Kasaragod; Kozhikode Medical College and Government Engineering College, West Hill, Kozhikode.

Registration is on for the programme, the organisers said. The District Collector, Rachna Shah, will inaugurate the fest on the NIT-C campus at 6.30 p.m. tomorrow.

The Director, NIT-C, S.S. Gokhale; the dean (students), K.N. Dutta; the Students' Council general secretary, Gince K. Mattom, and the cultural secretary, S. Vijayakrishnan, will attend the inaugural function.

The theme of this year's four-day festival is `duality.' A cultural extravaganza will be held after the inauguration. Several eminent personalities will participate in the ghazal, western and eastern music programmes. Cinematic dance will also be held as part of the cultural extravaganza.

The major attraction of this year's Ragam is the M.G. Sreekumar Nite at 7.30 p.m. on February 18. Passes will have to be obtained for the musical nite. The passes (Rs.50 each) are available at the venue on the NIT-C campus. The concert by the popular band Motherjane will be held at 6.30 p.m. on February 19. A fashion show will be held at 9.30 p.m. after the concert.

February 17 will feature crosswords and daily quizzes. The first few participants who manage to win will bag prizes. A topic/theme will be given to the participants of the creative writing (English) contest, each morning. The students should complete the write-up and hand over the matter within the stipulated time.

Other programmes scheduled to be held during the fete are Just-a-Minute (JAM), movie spoof, cartooning, rangoli, extempore, debates, dumb charades, pot pourri, monoact, collage, mock press, ad-venture, mimicry, mime, quizzes, and block and tackle. The participants will be provided accommodation in the NIT-C hostels and international hostels on the campus.
