Special schools fete: Thrissur, Kottayam share honours

KOZHIKODE, FEB. 15. Thrissur and Kottayam districts emerged the overall champions with 54 points in the mentally-challenged section of the State Special School Youth Festival being held at Kolathara here.

Kannur district was in second place with 47 points, while Malappuram and Alappuzha district shared the third place with 27 points when the competitions in the mentally-challenged section ended today.

P. M. Mejo of Pratheeksha, Irinjalakuda was declared Kalaprathibha and S. A. Sangeetha of Santhinilayam School, Kottayam was declared Kalathilakam in the mentally-challenged section.

In the hearing impaired section, St. Clair Oral School for the Deaf, Kottayam was leading with 15 points, followed by Assissi School for the Blind, Kalakketti, Kottayam was close behind with 13 points.

In the visually impaired section, Government School for the Blind, Olessa, Kottayam was leading with 24 points; while Assissi School for the Blind, Kalakketti, Kottayam was close behind with 23 points.

The visually impaired, hearing disabled and mentally-challenged are participating in different contests planned at the event.

As many as 2,000 students from 40 schools in the State are participating in the fete being held at six venues.

Earlier in the day, A. Ajithkumar, Director of Public Instruction, hoisted the flag at the fest venue. A colourful procession was held in the afternoon. The fest was inaugurated by C. Mammotty, MLA, after the procession. V. K. C. Mammadkoya, MLA, presided over the function. The fete will conclude tomorrow.

Here are some of the results of the mentally-challenged section of the fete which concluded today.

Folk dance: First - S. A. Sangeetha; Second - P. M. Mejo, Pratheeksha,

Irinjalakuda; Third - A.M.Munsila, Rahmaniya School, Kozhikode.

Light music: First - T. A. Kiran (Reach Unaided School, Thrissur); Second - Saneesh Mathew, San Jose Vidayalam, Ettumanor, Kottayam; Third - Binil Bhaskaran, Nirmala Sadan, Moovattupuzha.

Here are some of the results of visually-impaired section of the fest.

Folk Dance (UP Section): First- Reshma Joseph (Assissi School for the Blind, Kalakketti); Second- Keerthi Babu (School for the Blind, Aluva); Third - K. R. Soumya (Government School for the Visually Impaired, Thiruvananthapuram).

Classical Music (UP Section) (Boys): First - M.Dinesh (Keral School for the Blind, Vallikkappatta, Malappuram); Second -Ram Naik (Government School for the Blind, Kasaragod); S.Prabin (HKCMM Blind School, Kottappuram, Palakkad).
