Anticipatory bail granted

By Our Staff Reporter

MADURAI, FEB. 15 . The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court today granted anticipatory bail to six persons, including the manager of Thirukkurungudi Mutt, in a case registered against them for abetting a mutt employee to commit suicide. However, Justice N. Kannadasan directed them to appear before the Special Investigation Team at Kancheepuram every Sunday at 3 p.m.

The Mutt manager, B. Thirunarayanan (74), along with R. Seshadri (69) of Chennai, U. Selvam (40) of Hosur, D. Nambi Pandian (52), Thirunamam alias Radha (54) and Nambithalaivan alias Simpson Pandian (60) of Thirukkurungudi had moved the Court apprehending arrest in a case registered against them by the Nagercoil police.

According to the prosecution, Murugesan, an employee of the Mutt, was found dead on the railway track, near Kaaval Kinaru, on January 20. A note was found near the body stating that the manager along with others forced the deceased to alter the accounts of the Thirukkurungudi Mutt, failing which he was warned of the same consequence as that of Sankararaman of Kancheepuram.

Though initially the police registered a case under Section 174 Cr. P. C. (to enquire and report on suicide) based on the complaint preferred by the Railway Station Master at Nagercoil, it was altered to Section 306 of IPC (abetment to suicide) after post mortem.
