KOCHI, FEB. 15. Most city hospitals are reporting a high number of viral fever cases in children. Some hospitals are reporting around 80 to 100 cases a day while in some others there are even 150 or more cases. Satchidananda Kamath, a paediatrician, said that there are more number of children in his out-patient and in-patient clinics. Viral fever, which generally catches on during climate changes, is manifesting into a secondary infection too. According to Dr. Kamath, fever subsides in three to four days but after a gap of a few days it manifests into chest infection and cough which needs to be treated with antibiotics.
Adults affected
Adults are as much affected by the viral infection as children. Doctors believe that the virus is likely to affect older children and adults too. As it is infectious, children with fever or cold and cough should not be sent to school and day-care centres, so as to restrict the transmission of virus from one child to another.
