ERODE, FEB. 16. Erode district tops in the tsunami relief fund collections with Rs. 1,57,82,965 given to the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund, the Collector, D. Karthikeyan, said here yesterday.
Honoured
He was honouring the highest contributors to the relief fund. He said materials valued at Rs. 65 lakhs were dispatched to the tsunami-hit areas. He said he had deputed 50 officials to the tsunami-hit Nagapattinam for relief operations. He said doctors at the Government hospitals and those belonging to the Indian medical Association did a great job in treating the affected persons. The Collector presented certificates on behalf of the State Government to S. K. Maeilanandhen, P. C. Duraisamy, Santhy Duraisamy, Milka Group of Companies, U. R. Chinnasamy, Erode unit of Indian Medical Association, Government hospital doctors, Ideal Matriculation HSS, Kongu Vellalar Institute of Technology Trust and Kongu Arts and Science College among others. The Collector said some daily wage earners had contributed to the relief fund.
