Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, FEB. 16. The distribution of pamphlets by a group of people, believed to be volunteers of a political party from outside Pondicherry, at JIPMER (Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research) sparked tension today. The pamphlets supported the Centre's move to convert JIPMER into an autonomous institution and criticised those opposing the conversion. The workers and employees prevented the group from distributing the pamphlets. This led to a scuffle between the two groups. Six of the 11 who distributed the pamphlets were allegedly assaulted. Police restored peace.
