Letters to the Editor
Sir, This is regarding the demolition of slums in Mumbai, based on an arbitrary cut-off date determined by the Government of Maharashtra. Instead of finding a humanitarian solution, the Government has declared the slum dwellers illegal residents of the city. How many of us know that the multi-storeyed apartments most of us live in are illegal according to the building code and municipal laws? That makes us too illegal residents of the cities we live in. But it is only the underprivileged who incur official wrath.
Ashish Waghray,
