Rashid gives clean chit to Akhtar

LAHORE, FEB. 16 . Despite photographs of his nightclub outings in Australia raising hue and cry at home, beleaguered speedster Shoaib Akhtar got support from Pakistan team manager Haroon Rashid who gave the pacer a clean chit in his report.

This comes as a huge relief for Akhtar who will face a four-member disciplinary committee later this week to explain his off-field behaviour and charges of indiscipline and violation of code of conduct.

Rashid has also sent his report separately to the disciplinary committee which had asked for his comments on Akhtar.

"As far as I am concerned Shoaib was prompt in attending all team meetings, he followed the team dress code, attended all team dinners and official receptions. There was no case of him being involved in any misbehaviour off the field," The News quoted Haroon.

He, however, made it clear that there might be problems with the pacer at the nets. "As far as my domain is concerned there were no problems with any player. But if there were instances of Shoaib not bowling in the nets or not taking part in some training session, that comes under the preview of the captain and coach and not the manager," Rashid clarified. — UNI
