KOCHI, FEB. 16. The relatives of fishermen from the State who have been imprisoned in Pakistan, met the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, T.K.A. Nair, today and apprised him of the situation. Though the relatives of three fishermen reached the hotel in the hope of taking up their issue with the Prime Minister, they could not meet Manmohan Singh as he was busy with other engagements. They, along with Dominic Presentation, Minister for Fisheries and Tourism, met Mr. Nair. Mr. Presentation had earlier brought the issue to the notice of the Prime Minister in the meeting on Tuesday, according to a statement issued by the office of Mr. Presentation. It was nearly 10 months ago that the Keralites employed in an Oman-based firm landed in jail in Pakistan. Three of the imprisoned fishermen are from Kollam district and three from Thiruvananthapuram. The Prime Minister informed Mr. Presentation that the External Affairs Minister, Natwar Singh, who is currently touring Pakistan, had been directed to take up the issue with Pakistan President, the statement said.
