KOCHI, FEB. 16. One should not accept anything that goes against man, be it Communism or democracy or even rationalism, said renowned actor Kamal Haasan. He was speaking after receiving the Dr. A.T. Kovoor National Award for humanist activities and secular life here on Wednesday. The award is instituted by Bharatheeya Yukthivadi Sangham (Rationalist Association of India). Kamal Haasan said he chose to be an actor, as he could be useful to society thus. The award was presented by the Kerala High Court Judge M. Ramachandran. The State president of the Sangham, K.K. Abdul Ali, read out and presented the citation to the actor. Psychologist K.S. David presided over the function. Sebastian Paul, MP; K.V. Thomas, MLA; Babu Joseph, Rotary District Governor-elect; K.M. Roy, mediaperson; and K.N. Unnikrishnan, social activist; offered felicitations. Thengamam Balakrishnan, Johnson Ayiroor and magician R.K. Malayath, who had accompanied Dr. Kovoor in his journey to demystify miracles by godmen during the Seventies, were honoured at the function with Kamal Haasan draping them with ponnada.
