THRISSUR, FEB. 16. One thousand and five hundred women from 2,500 self-help groups (SHGs) in the district participated in the two-day district-level SHG arts festival that concluded here on Wednesday. The festival, which is the first of its kind in the State, had been organised as part of the efforts to bring marginalised sections of society into social mainstream. The participants in the district-level contest were selected through competitions conducted in 17 block panchayats of the district. Inaugurating the festival on Tuesday, the Sahitya Akademi secretary, P.V. Krishnan Nair, said the cultural activities would make human life more graceful. The Block Panchayat Presidents' Association State president K.K. Kochumuhammed presided over the inaugural session.
