MADURAI, FEB.16. The Central Vegetable Market was today auctioned for a record Rs.73 lakhs for daily rent collection for the year 2005-06. Last year, the market was auctioned for just Rs.36 lakhs. The Assistant Commissioners (north), G. Umapathy, and (south), Lakshmi, conducted the auction for 109 revenue-generating items, out of which 65 items were today auctioned. Among them were 10 markets, 45 toilets and nine vehicle stands. The auctioning, which came to an end late in the evening, went off peacefully. A huge posse of police force was present at the venue.
