Orientation courses at Bharathiar varsity

COIMBATORE, FEB. 16. The University Grants Commission - Academic Staff College, Bharathiar University, has planned several orientation and refresher courses during February and March this year:

General orientation courses: Two courses

Orientation course: One in Academic Administration

Refresher courses: Tamil, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, English, Economics, History, Zoology, Statistics, Linguistics, Botany, Costume Design and Fashion, International Business and Microbial Biotechnology.

Need-based refresher courses: Genetics and Instructional Technology & Evaluation (Inter-disciplinary)

The academic college has postponed the refresher courses in English, Computer Science, Tamil and Physics (scheduled this month), until adequate numbers of teachers confirmed their participation.

Applications

Teachers of all disciplines who have completed a year of service could submit their applications for the general orientation courses and the academic administrators (namely registrars, deputy registrars, assistant registrars, librarians, deputy librarians and assistant librarians), could submit applications for the orientation course in Academic Administration.

Subject teachers could submit applications for the courses concerned. Courses that attracted more respondents would be taken up before the others, so teachers have been asked to submit their applications early.

The refresher course in Microbial Biotechnology and the need-based courses in Genetics and Instructional Technology and Evaluation were interdisciplinary.

Teachers of any discipline could apply for the need-based course in Instructional Technology and Evaluation. But only teachers of biological sciences would be considered for the course in Microbial Biotechnology and Genetics. Applicants could obtain copies of the application form from the Director, UGC - Academic Staff College, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore - 641046, by sending a self-addressed and stamped envelope (Rs. 5). The application form could also be downloaded from www.b-u.ac.in, the university website.

Completed application forms were to be forwarded by the principals or secretaries of the colleges concerned, to reach the Director at the above-mentioned address.

Late applications would be considered subject to the availability of seats, according to a release.
