Sena's opposition

Sir, — The Shiv Sena supremo, Bal Thackeray's opposition to the coming cricket series between India and Pakistan is unfair and undemocratic. There are lakhs of cricket fans in India and they easily outnumber the supporters of the Sena.

Mr. Thackeray, at the most, can ask his diehard followers not to watch cricket between India and Pakistan.

R. Janakiraman,

Cheyyar, T.N.

Sir, — The Sena is at it again. It is not only opposing the cricket tour but also trying to interrupt it by indulging in acts of pitch-digging. Such gimmicks should be decried by all right-thinking people.

A.V. Narayanan,
Tiruchi, T.N.

Sir, — In today's material world, where nothing is done free, there is a group of people doing social service. The group digs up the earth free of cost. To utilise its services, people should name some barren pieces of land as cricketing venues. These will be duly dug up and made cultivable.

Abdul Monim,
Mumbai

Sir, — On the one hand, our political leadership wants to improve relations with Pakistan. On the other, we have leaders like Mr. Thackeray who oppose every effort to strengthen bilateral ties. Their views also find acceptance among some sections. One wonders which stand reflects the people's aspirations.

Akanksha Gupta,
Lucknow
