Letters to the Editor
Sir, The Supreme Court's decision to examine the issue of providing reservation to Dalit Christians (Feb. 12) is disheartening. The caste system is a unique feature of Hindu society. Once an individual converts to another religion, the laws applicable to that community alone should apply. Caste-based reservation is relevant only as long as one remains a Hindu.
B.N. Gangadhar,
Sir, The Court's decision is timely. The caste ethos has infected most members of all religions, including those who profess an egalitarian tenet. The ascribed social status of a Dalit does not in any way change just by his or her changing over to Christianity.
P. Arockiadoss,
