Bus service

Sir, — The agreement between India and Pakistan on the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus link will be welcomed by all peace-loving people of the subcontinent. It will help hundreds of families living on both sides of the Line of Control. The leaders of the two countries are beginning to understand that peace and friendship are necessary for the progress of the region. The Berlin Wall could not stand in the way of the Germans' resolve to unite. Surely, the wall of hatred between India and Pakistan can be brought down by the people?

S.A. Bari,
New Delhi

Sir, — The efforts of Atal Bihari Vajpayee to unite the hearts in India and Pakistan have finally borne fruit. A skilful diplomat, Natwar Singh, deserves to be congratulated, as does Pervez Musharraf, for achieving what seemed impossible a few years ago. The new bus service should mark the beginning of the end of the Kashmir dispute.

Mumtaz Ali Khan,
Bangalore

Sir, — Giving an opportunity to peace and normality is a welcome step. It will not only ease the tension between the two countries but will also enhance people-to-people contact, and more importantly, bring peace to the Valley.

Khalid Aziz,
Baramulla, J&K
