Uttaranchal
By Our Staff Correspondent
DEHRA DUN, FEB. 17. The Uttaranchal Electricity Regulatory Commission (UERC) has set up separate consumer grievances redress forums headed by retired district judges for the Garhwal and Kumaon regions. This, according to the UERC Chairman, Divaker Dev, has been done to ensure speedy redress of grievances of the consumers. In case a consumer is not satisfied by the decisions of these forums, he or she can approach the Ombudsman, J C Pant. " I am sure that the Commission along with the forums and Ombudsman will be able to give maximum transparency and justice to the consumers," Mr Dev said at an interactive session organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry here. He pointed out that the interesting feature here was the fact that only the consumers and not the licensee could approach the Ombudsman. The UERC has laid down the regulations for tariff determination, which would ensure complete transparency and consistency in the process of tariff determination. The mandate of the regulator was to protect the interests of all stakeholders. "The UERC is mandated to move towards tariffs based on cost of supply and also to eliminate cross subsidies. As industries typically consume higher voltages, which mean lower losses and hence lower costs, this move would in the long run be beneficial to the industry," Mr Dev said.
