NIZAMABAD, FEB. 17. The Chairperson of the Municipal Council of Nizamabad, P. Bharati Rani, passed away after a brief illness at a private hospital in Hyderabad this morning. She was 54 and is survived by husband, Sudarshan Reddy, a son and daughter. She was a leading medical practitioner before being elected Chairperson of the Municipality from the Bharatiya Janata Party in 1999. News of her sudden demise plunged the entire town into deep sorrow. She had endeared herself to one and all, Muslims in particular, as she rendered medical services to the poor free of cost. Her body was brought to the town around 3 pm. People from all walks of life paid homage and expressed deep sorrow over her death. Councillors cutting across party lines condoled the death of Dr. Rani and expressed their heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family. The former Union Minister of State for Urban Development, Bandaru Dattatreya, said she strived for the welfare of the poor till her last breath and rendered selfless service to the community. The Congress floor leader in the Municipality and DCC president, G. Gangadhar, said she showed a special interest in the development of the town. The Superintendent of Police, N. Madhusudhan Reddy, the Joint Collector, G. Venkatrami Reddy, and a host of officials and non-officials placed wreaths on her body.
Speaker mourns
The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, K.R. Suresh Reddy, expressed shock over the demise of Bharati Rani and in a condolence message sent to the bereaved family, said her services to the community were noteworthy.
Indrasena's tribute
Our Hyderabad Staff Reporter writes: N. Indrasena Reddy, president, BJP State unit, today described the death of the Nizamabad Municipal Chairperson, Bharathi Rani, as "untimely." In a message, he praised her contribution to the town's development. Mr. Reddy said her services to the party would be remembered for a long time and added that her death was a great loss to the party as well as the district. He conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family.
