Cuddapah
By Our Staff Reporter
CUDDAPAH, FEB. 17. Members of Parliament complained of poor connectivity of BSNL cellular phones, non-availability of SIM cards, delayed fault repairs and other problems in the first Telecom Advisory Board members' meeting here on Thursday. The Rajya Sabha member, S. Ramamuni Reddy of TDP, and the Rajampet Lok Sabha member, A. Sai Prathap of Congress, expressed discontent at the poor quality of service. The MPs complained of frequent BSNL cell network failure, inordinate delay in fault repairing in rural exchanges, improper settlement of refund claims. The MPs sought improvement of services, lest BSNL would lose substantial customers to private cellular services, which offered a wide of range of facilities at same or lower charges. They wanted reliable services at least in mandal headquarters and major panchayats. The other committee members too pointed out similar problems.
Official's plea
Replying to them, the General Manager of Cuddapah Telecom District, V.V.S. Raghava Kumar, said the expanding telecom network posed certain problems to the department, despite efforts to fulfil the expectations of customers. Better understanding between the department and its subscribers was essential and the advisory board should play a vital role in this regard, he said. The General Manager promised to motivate telecom officials and improve the network. The Deputy General Manager, G. Gourisankar, welcomed and AGM (planning), T.V.G. Kameswara Rao, proposed a vote of thanks. The DGM (maintenance), K. Murali Krishna, and other officials took part.
