BELLARY, FEB. 17. In all 10,903 persons filed their nomination papers to contest the elections to the 188 gram panchayats in the district. As many as 6,203 persons filed their nomination papers on Wednesday, which was the last day for doing so. However, no nomination papers were filed for nine seats of the 16-member Hampa Pattana Gram Panchayat in Hagari Bommanahalli taluk. Those who have filed nominations include 2,173 members of Scheduled Castes; 2,061 members of Scheduled Tribes; 2,724 from Other Backward Classes A; 778 from Other Backward Classes B; and 3,167 from the general category. Following is the taluk-wise details of the nominations filed in the order of number of panchayats, number of candidates (figures in bracket indicate men and women): Bellary 40, 2,043 (1,306, 737); Sirguppa 26, 1,243 (801, 442); Sandur 21, 1,440 (950, 490); Hospet 22, 1,332 (907-425); Hagari Bommanahalli 22, 1,270 (833, 437); Hadagali 24, 1,424 (920, 514) and Kudligi 33, 2,141 (1,407, 734). Saturday is the last day for withdrawal of nomination papers.
