State BJP releases office-bearers' list

BANGALORE, FEB. 17. The State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today announced an extensive list of its office-bearers and working committee members.

The unit President, Jagadish Shettar, released the list of vice-presidents, general secretaries, secretaries, treasurer, spokesperson, and those heading committees and morchas.

In general, the BJP has relied on old faithfuls in the nominations. However, a few of the newcomers, including some followers of the former Chief Minister and party MP from Shimoga, S. Bangarappa, who has announced his decision to join the Samajwadi Party, have been named to various committees.

Among the six vice-presidents are two recent entrants, K.B. Shanappa and C.M. Udasi, MLA and former Minister. Shoba Karandlaje, MLC from Dakshina Kannada, is among the six State secretaries.

Another new entrant Manjunath Kunnur, who bagged the Dharwad South Lok Sabha seat for the party, has been made a member of the national farmers' morcha.

The deputy leader in the State Assembly, Govind Karjol, who was earlier with the Janata Dal, is on the seven-member steering committee.

The party, which seems to have neglected some of the leading figures from fields other than politics, after the elections, has accommodated some of them.

The former Chief Secretary A. Ravindra is one of the members of the State Committee. G. Basvannappa, MLA and former Minister, who is considered a follower of Mr. Bangarappa, is among the members. So also the U.S.-educated former Janata Dal MLA, B. Guruprasad, who lost the Assembly elections by a narrow margin.

Mumtaz Ali Khan, academic, will head the minority morcha.

The State Steering Committee members are Mr. Shettar; the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, B.S. Yediyurappa; the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, D.H. Shankaramurthy; the Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Govinda Karjol; the State unit Vice-President, Vishweshwar Hegde; and the party general secretaries Aravind Limbavali and R. Ashok.

The six vice-presidents are K.B. Shanappa (Gulbarga), B.R. Patil Yatnal (Bijapur), A.G. Kodgi (Udupi), D.V. Sadananda Gowda (Dakshina Kannada), C.M. Udasi (Haveri), and Vishweshwar Hegde (Uttara Kannada).

The general secretaries are K.S. Eshwarappa (Shimoga), Aravind Limbavali (Bangalore), R. Ashok (Bangalore), and Vaman Acharya (Bangalore).

The secretaries are G.M. Siddeshwar, Raghunatha Rao Malkapur, S. Kailas, Shobha Karandlaje, V. Sunil Kumar and B. Suresh Gowda.

P.C. Mohan is treasurer and S. Suresh Kumar is spokesperson.

Prominent members of the working committee are Mr. Yediyurappa, Mr. Shankaramurthy, Basavaraj Patil Sedam, Govind Karjol, and Ramachandra Gowda. M.R. Tanga, B.G. Banakar, Mukhyamantri Chandru, V.S. Acharya, Ramesh Jigajinagi, Basavarajeshwari, Nagamma Keshavamurthy, A. Ravindra, B.G. Jawali, Derrick M.B. Fullinfaw, Manorama Madhwaraj, Premila Nesargi and film actor Srinath have also found a place in the list.

There are 26 special invitees from all districts. Ashok Guttedar, Amarnath Reddy, Appachu Ranjan, Vilas Pawar, film actor Sai Kumar figure in the list.

The mahila morcha is headed by Srilatha Poornachandra. S.M. Nimbannavar is raitha morcha President.

The President of the Scheduled Castes morcha is Rajendra Verma, and the Scheduled Tribes morcha is headed by Sriramulu.

he morcha for minorities is headed by Mumtaz Ali Khan.

There are eight forums headed by the State convenors.

The slum cell convenor is Ratan Singh and the cooperation cell convenor is Lakshman Soudhi.

The legal cell is headed by S. Dorai Raju.

The forum for silk weavers has Hanumantharayappa as convenor.

The weavers' forum convenor is Mahadevappa Hatti, while the cultural forum convenor is B.P. Manjunath. The traders' cell convenor is Babulal Porawal.

The yuva morcha convenor is C.T. Ravi.

Many leaders have made it to the national morchas and forums. Vimala Gowda is Vice-President of the mahila morcha. Abhay Patil is Vice-President of the yuva morcha. Subramanya Naidu is Convenor of the slum forum.

Manjunath Kunnoor is member of the kisan cell and Trivikram Joshi is member of the yuva morcha. Eshwar Chandra Hosmani is a special invitee on the kisan morcha.

The office-bearers and members of the morchas and cells are permanent invitees to the working committee as are the district presidents and district general secretaries.

Mr. Shettar said a 15-member State Committee on elections has been constituted in view of the gram panchayat elections later this month.

The committee is chaired by Mr. Shettar. Ananth Kumar, MP; Mr. Yediyurappa, Mr. Shankaramurthy, Mr. Patil Yatnal, Mr. Vishweshwar Hegde, Mr. Ramachandra Gowda, Dr. Tanga, Mr. Jigajinnagi, Mr. Chandru, Mr. Eshwarappa, Mr. Limbavali, Mr. Ashok, Dr. Vaman Acharya and Ms. Vimala Gowda are members.

The State Disciplinary Committee has five members. It is chaired by Mr. Chandru and has B.G. Banakar, Mr. Limbavali, Dr. Acharya and Narahari Phadke as members.
